New maximum amount: almost 12,000 euros for a good cause
Since 1992, employees, civil servants and pensioners of the City of Aachen have been able to give up a cent of their salary each month in favor of charitable projects. Last year, over 2,000 employees and pensioners raised a total of 11,978 euros. This is the highest amount since the donation of spare cents began. For individual employees, this only affects the amount of cents on their payslip, but quickly adds up to a large amount of help.
Markus Lennartz, head of the city's Human Resources and Organization department, was able to hand over this sum to charitable organizations on Tuesday, 12 November and explained: "I am proud every year that such a large sum is raised. It shows that even supposedly small things can have an impact." He expressed his heartfelt thanks, as did Karlheinz Welters, Chairman of the General Staff Council, and Stephan Baurmann, Chairman of the General Administration Staff Council, to the city employees who donate these pennies every year.
The Ronald McDonald House, the Kingz Corner, the "Pack Project" of the Aachen Social Pediatric Center (SPZ) and the Aachen Region Outpatient Children's and Youth Hospice Service can now look forward to financial support of 2,994 euros each. Suggestions as to who the donations should be given to also come from the municipal workforce. Once again this year, several criteria were applied when selecting the institutions to be supported. The most important aspect is that the money benefits children; regionality and low cost structures also play a major role.
The representatives of the organizations thanked each and every one of them for making this donation possible.
