Winter lights. A museum shows what it's made of!
Presentation in the portfolio
21.12.2024 - 28.02.2025
In winter, the weak sun often provides little light and warmth. Time seems to pass more slowly and retreating indoors offers space for reflection and relaxation. With the winter solstice on December 21, the Couven Museum invites you to escape the cold and enjoy the play of light from the crystal chandeliers and mirrors. There are also numerous fireplaces throughout the building, which are of particular importance in winter. In the past, heat storage was essential, as heating was expensive and fireplaces were not very
energy-efficient. Mobile heat storage units ensured that heat was transferred from the kitchen stove to other rooms. Today, despite modern heating technologies, the need for coziness in the dark season remains. The exhibition sheds light on the changes in heating systems and light sources as well as the perception of time using thematically appropriate exhibits from the Couven Museum's permanent collection. The historical exhibits are placed in a contemporary context to illustrate their significance today.
How have heating systems and light sources changed over time?
What influence do the changes brought about by climate change have on heating and air conditioning systems? In the exhibition, the themes of light and warmth as essential elixirs of life and the perception of time are presented using selected exhibits from the permanent collection.
