"Viewpoints - old treasures revisited" exhibition extended until February 9, 2025!

In cooperation with Lebenshilfe Aachen Werkstätten & Service GmbH

The exhibition "Ansichtssachen" is being extended and can be seen until
Sunday, February 9, 2025 in the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum's Medieval Collection. The SLM is showing 40 works by 14 artists from the art workshop of Aachener Lebenshilfe right next to the 500-year-old reference works that were the source of inspiration for the works created.
The project is taking place against the backdrop of the research traineeship "Other Views on Medieval Art", which is based at the museum and funded by the NRW Ministry of Culture and Science and explores new approaches to medieval art as part of the museum's ongoing opening up.

Three guided tours will take place in December as part of the accompanying program: On December 8, the Museum Service Aachen is offering a public guided tour of the exhibition at 3.00 pm. Visitors can take part in a trio tour with artist Annika Sachtleben, Maria Geuchen, who curated the exhibition, and the artistic director of the workshop, Hans Bothur, on December 15 at 3.00 pm. Participation tickets are available at the ticket office from 30 minutes before the start of the tour. Admission and the guided tour are free of charge for people up to and including the age of 21.
In the SLM's quarter-hour "art break", curator Maria Geuchen will present Annika Sachtleben's work "Schneiderei" on
17 December at 1.00 pm.
In this detailed work, the artist provides an insight into her fantasy world of intricate creatures, piled-up fabrics and rattling scissors. She refers to a medieval painting from the museum collection, which shows the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus and two saints. Annika Sachtleben is particularly fascinated by the precious clothes of the sitter, which she takes as the starting point for her personal interpretation of the old work of art.
