Advent at SLM - An excursion in the run-up to Christmas

With free admission, the SLM invites you to an Advent excursion to Turkey. The day's program has the motto: "Second Advent is also possible in Turkish!".
The whole day is packed with events, including a bilingual guided tour with Anatolian references entitled "From Santa Claus to slippers!", painting and calligraphy workshops and much more. A concert with Hüseyin Üstündag, a master of the Turkish lute Bağlama, promises to be a special highlight. Café Kunstkammer will be serving Turkish tea and baklava.

All day: Collection rally in German & Turkish, coloring station with Anatolian motifs

Bilingual guided tour of Islamic art in Turkish and German with Sena-Marie Cirit and Dr. Kasim Yekeler
Islamic art ranges from the oldest Koran manuscripts to glazed ceramics and textiles to portraits of rulers and magnificent buildings. The theme of the tour is handicrafts in Islamic art from the SLM collection. Registration requested: eventslm@mail.aachen.de

A dance on water: Ebru painting workshop for families with Hasan Akten
Ebru is the art of marbling or painting on water. Various color mixtures are applied to glue water ("kitre") in a tub ("tekne") provided for this purpose, and are then distorted into ornaments, calligraphy, flowers or patterns using special brushes made of rosewood and horsehair. In the 15th century, this complex art form experienced its heyday during the Ottoman Empire. Today, Ebru art is also known in this country as "marbled paper" or "Turkish paper".

Calligraphy workshop for young people and adults with Mehmed Jakubovic
This workshop focuses on the general basics and techniques of Arabic calligraphy. You will work with individual letters and words. Calligraphy artist Mehmed Jakubovic offers an insight into the diversity of calligraphy: from the position of the pen to the written name.

Sounds of Anatolia - concert with the Turkish lute bağlama
with Hüseyin Üstündag
The Turkish lute, also known as the saz or bağlama, represents the world of Anatolian music like no other instrument. Hüseyin Üstündag has been playing the bağlama since the 80s. As an important part of his life, the instrument has accompanied the Aachen native in the most diverse phases of his life. After a brief introduction to the instrument, Hüseyin Üstündag invites you to experience the versatility of the Turkish lute with traditional instrumentation as well as folk and pop music. No registration required!
