Dear swimmers at the Hangeweiher Outdoor Pool,
It's getting hot, but to keep things from getting out of hand at the outdoor pool, we ask everyone to follow a few rules:
- Breaks while sliding and jumping
If the temperature and the number of swimmers in the pools reach a certain limit, we unfortunately have to close attractions such as the diving towers and boards or the slide. The risk of injuring people in the pool—and ourselves—is simply too high. Furthermore, this would require assigning a lifeguard here who is urgently needed elsewhere.
- A complete suspension of admissions or longer wait times
If the pools and lawns are packed to capacity or if a special situation arises—such as a rescue—staff will unfortunately have to put the brakes on. This means that admission may be temporarily suspended or even completely halted for the rest of the day. And here’s what to expect this weekend: On Friday, June 26, Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, the ticket office will close no later than 3:00 p.m. However, if there are too many visitors, wait times or a suspension of admission may occur even earlier. This always depends on the situation on site. The outdoor pool will remain open until 8:30 p.m., though.
- Lightning and Thunder
Extreme heat is often followed by a thunderstorm, sometimes accompanied by strong winds, heavy rain, or hail. Please note: If the situation becomes dangerous for swimmers, staff may close and evacuate the pool at very short notice—without providing a full or partial refund of the admission fee. It’s a good idea to check the weather forecast in advance.
The staff at the Hangeweiher outdoor pool look forward to seeing you, but also ask for your understanding regarding these measures—for your safety and to ensure a stress-free visit to Aachen’s outdoor pool.

Changed opening hours for swimming pools
The Swimming Pools
The city of Aachen maintains four indoor swimming pools and one outdoor pool. Schwimmhalle Ost is operated by Aachener Bad & Sport GmbH.

Hangeweiher outdoor pool
Water cannons, a wide slide and a shady sunbathing lawn: The modern outdoor pool guarantees great swimming fun - surrounded by greenery but close to the city center.

Brand indoor swimming pool
The small hall with the large catchment area: Aachen's smallest indoor swimming pool is rather cozy and informal, with many regulars, some of whom even travel from the Eifel. And everything is completely wheelchair accessible. There are special sanitary facilities, toilets and changing rooms for people with disabilities.

South swimming pool
The family swimming pool: the little ones love the winding stream with the elephant to slide down, the water carousel and many other play options.

Elisabeth Hall
The secret star among Aachen's indoor swimming pools: The swimming pool in the middle of the old town impresses with its magnificent Art Nouveau architecture.

Ulla Klinger Hall
The sportiest of Aachen's indoor swimming pools: The diving facility with the ten-meter tower and the 4.50-meter deep pool are impressive. Many ambitious swimmers do their laps in the swimming pool. But the hall is suitable for all swimmers.
