Kaiserplatz/eastern city center coordination office
The Kaiserplatz/Östliche Innenstadt coordination office was set up in May 2023. Following the example of the successful work of the Bushof coordination office, the district around Kaiserplatz has also been the focus of increased attention since then. In a broad network of various stakeholders from urban society, the aim is to jointly tackle the complex problems in the area, identify and reduce burdens and strengthen the district's resources.
Under the motto "Achieving more together", all Aachen citizens and institutions from society, politics, business and social affairs are cordially invited to participate in the development of the district and the improvement of the local quality of life.

Tasks of the coordination office
Following the resolutions of the Committee for Social Affairs, Integration and Demography and the Aachen-Mitte district council, the city of Aachen set up a new coordination office for the Kaiserplatz/eastern city center area at the beginning of May. The head of the coordination office is Sara Lauscher.
For decades, Kaiserplatz has been a preferred location for the addiction scene, where there are also low-threshold advice and care services for the people affected. There are always clear conflicts of use there. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the stressful situation for those affected was exacerbated when care services were temporarily relocated and previous retreats were lost. The increase in littering, harassment and other crimes, as well as numerous vacancies, significantly exacerbated the social problems in the area around Kaiserplatz. The establishment of the Kaiserplatz/Östliche Innenstadt coordination office is intended to change this and work with all stakeholders to improve the quality of the area.
The coordination office alone cannot solve the local problems. However, as a network office, it can initiate measures to solve problems, coordinate stakeholders, mitigate developments, make them transparent and contribute to their effectiveness. Together with numerous stakeholders from administration, politics, welfare, business, society, science and the neighborhood, the coordination office is to take care of and support the various infrastructural and social processes and issues. As a "caretaker", Sara Lauscher is also an important point of contact and mediation for those with concerns, tradespeople and institutions, among others.
