The underpass for pedestrians on Turmstraße between Audimax and Intzestraße/Mensa Academica has been redesigned by street artist Señor Schnu.
Thick poster wallpaper dating back up to three decades, graffiti, flaking wall plaster and dirty corners used to characterize the image of the underground passageway. Yet it is used like hardly any other in the city. In particular, the cross-connection between the Audimax and the refectory is an important axis that up to 3500 people pass through every day.
In May, the walls of the tunnel were professionally cleaned, plastered and painted. From 1 to 13 June, Señor Schnu realized his ideas in the underpass. At its core, Señor Schnu's concept is based on two concepts: Diversity & Friendliness. By using appropriate colors, elements and statements, the underpass should have a pleasant and lively appearance in the future
Project "Unti" skatepark meets street art
Aachen's makeover of the "Turmstraße" underpass
The summer of 2020 has shown that "good things don't always take time". In just a few weeks, the city of Aachen, in cooperation with @senorschnu, @rwthaachenuniversity and @atsarwth, transformed the underpass on Turmstraße from a dark and gray place into Aachen's chicest underground gallery. But that's not all. In addition to street art, the skate crew from @unti.life is now also bringing further life to this new location and providing an offer for all interested parties. We look back with pleasure on this great joint project of 2020.
