"Transnational Regional Administration Network for Sustainable Integrated Transport"
With 250,000 inhabitants, 60,000 students and 180,000 jobs, the city of Aachen is an attractive place to live, study and do business in the border triangle of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Over 70,000 commuters and almost 70,000 commuters within the city characterize Aachen's traffic peaks. Aachen is part of the StädteRegion Aachen (560,000 inhabitants) and is positioned as a European city of science.
TRANSIT is dedicated to the challenge of more efficient and targeted cooperation in the creation of cross-border public transport services for the population in the Euregio-Meuse-Rhine (EMR). There are still far more obstacles to using public transport for cross-border journeys than there are for journeys by car, such as non-standardized tariff structures, booking options, distribution channels, etc. There are many reasons for this. The reasons for this are manifold, but a key element on the way to more efficient services and target-oriented planning across the border is the advancement of policy coherence in the program region. The main objective of this project is therefore to create a sustainable, more efficient network of relevant stakeholders in order to create attractive and easy-to-use offers for cross-border mobility in the EMR.
Aachen is therefore organizing several best-practice workshops on cross-border mobility issues (e.g. public transport, sharing, P+R, etc.) during the course of the project, in which experts from administrations, companies and universities from the EMR will present solutions and discuss transfer possibilities to the other countries. In addition, as part of the TRANSIT project, the "Netzwerk Mobilitätswende Region Aachen (NEMORA)" is to be extended across the border to Belgian and Dutch municipalities as an example.
