Sharing offers
The English word "sharing" refers to the shared use of a resource, such as a
bike, e-scooter or car. The term multimodality describes switching to different means of transportation to reach a destination. The proportion of multimodal users in Aachen is growing steadily and sharing services are in high demand. The city of Aachen wants to promote this positive development.

Car sharing
Definition: Mobile at any time - without your own car!
Car sharing is a system that offers the opportunity to use locally available vehicles at any time for any length of time. Car sharing is an environmentally friendly and inexpensive alternative to owning a car, especially for those who only need a car occasionally or want to consciously do without their own car. True to the motto "book - get in - drive", you can access Cambio vehicles easily and without complications. How it works: You reserve a car of your choice online via the Cambio app or via movA, pick it up at the specified car sharing station, drive as long and as far as you want and return it to the pick-up station. Billing is based on the time booked and kilometers driven.
Carshring concept
The City of Aachen supports the use of car sharing as a contribution to sustainable mobility. Car sharing is an important component of the sharing guidelines. Stationary car sharing also offers considerable added value in terms of urban development and traffic due to the proven savings in car use. This type of car sharing should continue to be pursued as a priority in Aachen. In Aachen, car sharing has so far been characterized by the largest operator, Cambio, which has been active since 1990. It currently provides its approx. 232 car sharing vehicles at 73 stations.
Car sharing models in use
With station-based car sharing, the vehicles are rented and returned at a fixed station. Reservations can be made several weeks in advance, which means that vehicle availability is highly predictable. It is also possible to make spontaneous bookings for vehicles that have not been reserved in advance, which are then immediately available.
Car sharing citizen participation
Station-based car sharing has proven to be an effective instrument for reducing the number of cars on the road and thus makes a significant contribution to relieving traffic congestion. For this reason, station-based car sharing will continue to be promoted as a priority in Aachen.

E-scooter
Since October 2019, numerous providers of e-scooter rental systems have been active in the city of Aachen. The basis for renting out these rental vehicles has so far been the signing of the municipal quality agreement between the city of Aachen and the providers. There are currently three providers with a total of 2,000 vehicles in the public areas of Aachen. VOI (October 4, 2019), TIER (February 1, 2020 and since October 2024 under the DOTT brand) and RideMovi (April 30, 2024) are currently represented with a maximum number of 666 e-scooters each.
E-scooters, also known as e-scooters, offer a good solution for covering the first and last mile. They have been officially permitted on public roads since 2019. Numerous e-scooters from three providers are available for use in the city.
The offer is intended to provide a high-quality response to the mobility needs of the population in Aachen as well as visitors to the city. A mixture of free-floating and fixed parking zones is to be implemented.
E-scooters are a popular addition to the means of transport. Especially if they can reduce car journeys and relieve traffic congestion. Users can park their e-scooters in the same way as bicycles. However, it is important that no paths are blocked or green spaces damaged. In order to further regulate the parking of e-scooters, the first 16 parking zones will soon be set up in the city center. More are planned in places where scooters are parked particularly often, such as in front of train stations, hospitals or universities.
