On the road in and to Aachen
On foot
The city of short distances: Did you know that more than 30% of all journeys in Aachen-Mitte are made on foot? This puts Aachen way ahead of the rest of Germany when it comes to walking. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to walk from the Alleenring to the cathedral. Strolling, strolling or lingering is particularly attractive in the old town. The beautiful paths are being extended even further. Many destinations in the center can be reached safely and comfortably on foot. Clearly visible pedestrian signage helps you find your way.
By bike
There are 220 kilometers of cycle paths in Aachen. The aim of the Aachen cycling decision is to have a main cycle network in which 90 percent of the population live within 200 meters of a main connection. In order to enable safe and comfortable cycling in Aachen, the city of Aachen is building a "priority cycle network".
By bus and train
Aachen is easy to reach by train: You can find your connection on the Deutsche Bahn website. Aachen main station can be reached by Thalys and ICE trains. The Aachen West and Aachen Schanz stations are close to the city center. You can also reach the east of the city via Aachen Rothe Erde station. The euregiobahn trains ensure that Aachen is easy to reach from the surrounding region. The Netherlands can also be reached quickly by train. Since 2019, the RE18 line has offered a direct connection from Aachen via Heerlen to Maastricht and back. The city center is not far from the respective train stations and can be reached quickly by bus or, in some cases, on foot.
By car
The city is easily accessible by car. The mobility dashboard and the “Stadtnavi” app provide a good overview of current traffic conditions. There are many parking garages available. We also recommend the five Park+Ride facilities in the city area. From there, you can reach all destinations on and within the Alleenring by bus using an affordable ticket. If you’d like to park on the street, you can also book your parking ticket via your cell phone.
Modal on the road
Take the bus to the train station and then ride an e-bike into town from there. It's that simple. ASEAG's movA service combines various modes of transportation within a single app.
By coach
In Aachen there are parking spaces for coaches in Friedlandstraße, Karmeliterstraße, Sandkaulstraße and Wilmersdorfer Straße.

If you're out late in the city center on weekends and holidays, take the bus to get home safely! The night buses depart from Elisenbrunnen or the Aachen Bus Terminal at 1:30 a.m., 2:30 a.m., and 3:30 a.m.

Relevant tickets and tariffs
eezyticket NRW
With the “eezy” fare, valid throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, you can travel flexibly and affordably. The fare is calculated based on the distance traveled as the crow flies. eezy is generally cheaper than a standard ticket. There is a monthly cost cap equal to that of the Deutschlandticket, but without a subscription.
The fare can be used via many apps such as “movA,” “naveo,” and “mobil.nrw.” You must check in and check out.

Where can I charge my electric car?
Charging points
There are over 700 charging stations for electric cars available in Aachen. When charging on public streets, please note that charging time is limited to two hours at AC charging stations and one hour at DC charging stations (fast-charging stations) between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.You can find out

For longer stays in Germany, you can order a Deutschlandticket online. With this monthly ticket, you can use all regional public transportation in Germany (such as regional buses and trains, subways, and commuter trains). Please
note: The ticket is a subscription and will be automatically renewed unless canceled by the tenth day of the month.Euregioticket (cheap travel to three countries)
With the Euregioticket, you can travel cheaply in the Rhine-Meuse region in three countries (Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands). For example, you can travel from Aachen to Maastricht or Liège and back with this one-day ticket for 23.50 euros. At weekends and on public holidays, the ticket is valid for two adults and three children under the age of twelve.
