Seniors' Council

Welcome to the website of the Senior Citizens' Council of the City of Aachen. With these pages, we want to supplement the city's pages on ageing from the perspective of fellow citizens who are already older. Ideally, these pages should not be a portal for the 60-plus generation, but should also address cross-generational commonalities. Here you will find information and suggestions and learn more about our work as a seniors' council. And if you are still missing something, please send us an e-mail toseniorenrat.aachen.redaktion@web.de.

The range of events on offer for the (prospective) 60-plus generation is diverse, but also confusing. We try to shed some light on this jungle.

App recommendations

The smartphone has become an integral part of everyday life. Here we present the apps and websites that you can definitely use or should at least have on your smartphone.

  • Well supplied in Aachen

On the market for several years and now successfully established in almost 60 German cities, the free health and senior citizens' app "Gut versorgt in ..." is now available free of charge to all citizens in Aachen. The app offers a wide range of orientation aids and information from and about Aachen.

  • Nora - Emergency call app

There are situations that we would prefer not to experience. But if it does happen, we react frantically and sometimes incorrectly. This is where the nora app can help, as it not only addresses the emergency call correctly, but also asks the right questions.

  • Nina - Warning app

The flood disaster in the Ahr valley, but also in NRW, have shown how important a central app can be for important civil protection alerts - whether weather warnings from the German Weather Service or major fires, this app will keep you informed.

Introducing the Senior Citizens' Council

Every five years, all citizens of the city of Aachen aged 60 and over have the opportunity to elect new honorary representatives to the Senior Citizens' Council. But who is the Senior Citizens' Council, what does it do and why should you vote in 2027?

The Senior Citizens' Council in the districts

The Senior Citizens' Council wants to be close to the citizens of Aachen and actively listen to their wishes and concerns. For this reason, Aachen has been divided into 14 social areas (districts), which are not necessarily identical to the city districts. Each of these districts elects its own representatives.

Senior citizens' council in politics

Decisions are made in the political committees. However, senior citizens are quickly forgotten. That is why representatives of the Senior Citizens' Council are represented in many important committees to contribute their views - even if we do not have the right to vote. All public information can be found in the City of Aachen's council information system.
