Good news for homeowners in Aachen: The municipal grant program “mitgeDACHt” is being relaunched. After the funds were completely exhausted last year due to high demand, funding is now available again. Grant applications can be submitted starting immediately.

Through the “mitgeDACHt” program, the City of Aachen helps property owners identify and develop previously untapped residential space in existing buildings. Funding is provided in two stages. In the first stage, funding of up to 2,000 euros is available for a consultation on a “feasibility study” for the construction project conducted by recognized experts. In the second stage, once the project is implemented (as evidenced by the issuance of a building permit), an additional flat-rate grant of 2,000 euros is paid out.

Limited Total
Funding Budget Interest in the program has been very high in recent years. As a result, the funding for 2024/25 was fully allocated before the end of the year. Therefore, interested parties should check early on whether they wish to submit an application for their building and their needs. Funding can only be approved within the limits of available budgetary resources and provided that the eligibility requirements are met. There is no legal entitlement to funding.

: The amount of land available for development within Aachen’s city limits is limited. To create additional housing despite this, the City of Aachen, in collaboration with policymakers and the housing industry, has launched various initiatives. These include the “mitgeDACHt” funding program, which provides financial support for consulting services aimed at developing housing potential that is currently unused or underutilized.

Unconverted attics or the redesign of living spaces can create additional housing units in existing buildings. In this way, they help to develop new housing without further land sealing.

Since the initial conditions of buildings can vary greatly, requirements and possibilities differ significantly from one building to another. A case-by-case assessment by recognized experts is therefore essential. Funding for this consulting service is intended to help alleviate the burden on property owners who have ideas for renovations or expansions to create additional residential units, thereby supporting the implementation of such construction projects.
