Europe Direct: A Virtual Trip to Ukraine with Bohdan Mamchur
Many people know Ukraine mainly from the news: war, crises, uncertainty. But what do we actually know about the country itself? About its culture, its cities, its people, and their dreams? This installment of the “My Europe” series focuses on Ukraine—not just as a crisis-stricken region, but as a vibrant country in Europe.
On Wednesday, November 4, at 7 p.m., Bohdan Mamchur will take us on a virtual tour of Ukraine. After studying biology and anthropology in Ukraine, he completed an Erasmus Mundus program in Italy and Spain and worked as an archaeologist in Germany. In 2022, he co-founded the association “Ukrainer in Aachen e.V.,” in which he remains active. He organizes events in Germany where he advocates for continued support of Ukraine on democratic and social grounds.
He is currently pursuing his doctorate at the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic, where he advocates for vulnerable groups such as migrants, Roma, and the homeless. At “My Europe – Ukraine,” Bohdan will present his country and offer insights into Ukrainian culture and society, beyond the context of Russia’s war of aggression.
Participants in the virtual tour can actively take part, including through an interactive quiz. During this free online event, host Felix Schneider will address questions from the audience. Anyone who wishes to do so can turn on their video and audio and ask Dániel questions directly. Registration is available online at www.mein-europa.eu. Access information will then be sent immediately via email.
The series is organized by the following partners: Institut Français Aachen, Karlspreisstiftung, Karlspreis Academy, and the EUROPE DIRECT Centers Aachen, Kreis Gütersloh, Dortmund, Duisburg and Bocholt.
