Be careful during a storm: Avoid forests and parks
Outside, the weather is becoming unpleasant, damp, and cold, with the first fall and winter storms currently sweeping across the countryside. Stormy weather is also forecast for the coming weekend, starting today, Friday, October 23. For this reason, the City of Aachen advises anyone seeking recreation to avoid the Aachen Forest and the parks during storms. But even after the storms, caution is still advised in the days and weeks that follow: Not all branches fall immediately; some get caught in the tree crowns, break off later, and may not fall onto the walking trails until much later. The following applies to walks in the forest year-round, but especially in the fall and winter: Always stay alert while walking, wear appropriate footwear, and stay on the trails.
By the way: Legally speaking, almost all forest trails and roads in the Aachen Forest are private roads that can be used by the public but are not designated as public roads. As a general rule, winter maintenance is not performed on either the forest trails or the forest parking lots. Anyone engaging in activities there does so at their own risk.
