A4 Highway: The Aachen-Zentrum Interchange Will Remain Closed for a Longer Period
On October 6, the highway authority announced that the Aachen-Zentrum interchange on the A4 highway, located to the north, is expected to remain closed until Friday, November 13. This affects the exit from the A4 to Aachen-Zentrum coming from the Aachener Kreuz interchange and the entrance ramp onto the A4 heading toward the Netherlands.
The delay is due to the fact that extensive modifications had to be made to the drainage system at the entrance and exit. During construction, previously unknown pipes were discovered, which had to be taken into account as construction continued. Several drainage shafts were rebuilt and reconstructed.
The Aachen-Zentrum on- and off-ramp has been closed since August 25. A detour is marked with a red dot and directs drivers via the Aachen-Laurensberg interchange and the Aachen highway interchange.
The A4 on-ramp heading toward Cologne and the off-ramp for traffic coming from the Netherlands will remain open to motorists during the closure.
In parallel with the work on the Aachen-Zentrum on- and off-ramps, Autobahn GmbH is renovating the truck lane and the shoulder between the Aachen interchange and the Aachen-Laurensberg off-ramp. The asphalt pavement, the frost-protection layer, and the drainage system are being replaced as part of this project. Work on the truck lane and shoulder will continue through the end of 2026. However, no road closures are necessary.
