Local Politics for the Week of October 5–11
Next week, local politics will focus on three district council meetings on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Senior Citizens' Council and the Mobility Committee will also meet.
Wednesday, October
7. The Aachen-Mitte District Council will kick off the proceedings at 5 p.m. In the council chamber, members will discuss the integrated urban development concept “Zukunft Forst,” the redesign of the Vaalser Straße / Amsterdamer Ring / Halifaxstraße, as well as the results of the public participation process and the redesign following the Regionetz project on Roermonder Straße (section from Ponttor to Kohlscheider Straße).
At 6:00 p.m., the Aachen-Richterich District Council will meet at Schönau Castle. Items on the agenda include decisions regarding the allocation of district funds, the installation of additional bike racks in Aachen-Richterich, and the implementation of a permanent no-stopping and no-parking zone on Josef-Ponten-Straße.
At the same time, the Aachen-Haaren District Council will meet at the community center at Germanusstraße 38. In addition to allocating the district’s discretionary and investment funds for 2026, there will be a status report on the schoolyards in the district. Furthermore, Benjamin Henning, the new head of the Haaren maintenance yard within the Aachen Municipal Services, will introduce himself to the District Council.
Thursday, October
8. The Senior Citizens’ Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the VHS Aachen for its session. The agenda includes a discussion of an amendment to the election regulations for the Senior Citizens’ Council election and the 2026 district budget. Attendees can also look forward to a presentation on programs for seniors offered by the VHS.
At 5:00 p.m. in the City Council chamber, the Mobility Committee will address, among other things, the redesign of the Vaalser Straße / Amsterdamer Ring / Halifaxstraße intersection. The focus here is on the study mandates and the selection of options for the “Venskyhäuschen” stop. Other topics include the modernization of the parking guidance system in Aachen and real-time monitoring of on-street parking spaces, as well as a planning resolution regarding the Berensberg priority bike route—specifically, the redesign of Rolandstraße and Krefelder Straße between the “Bastei” intersection and Soerser Weg.
