A journey through time: Guided tours through the Elisabethhalle
A brief journey back in time to the bathing culture of over 100 years ago: On Saturday, November 28, three guided tours will once again be offered at the historic Elisabethhalle. The tour naturally includes both swimming halls—built for what was then still gender-segregated bathing for women and men. A visit to the swimming hall gives you a wonderful sense of luxurious Art Nouveau-style bathing. This impression is further enhanced by the decommissioned tub section, which still features its original fixtures and furnishings.
As you descend into the hidden areas of the technology underneath the swimming pool hall, you get an idea of how complex it was to operate such a swimming pool hall, for which, for example, a coal-fired steam heating system had to be kept in constant operation. And the effort that is still required today with modern technology to provide a well-heated, ventilated and hygienically perfect indoor swimming pool for the public.
There is a guided tour at 8.30 am, 10 am and 11.30 am. A maximum of 20 people can take part in each tour. The route of the tour is not barrier-free and unfortunately not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
Registration is required. You can register starting Monday, November 9, in person or by phone at 0241 432-5216 at the Elisabethhalle box office. The participation fee is 5 euros per person and must be paid within one week to confirm your registration.
