Aachen Forestry Office undergoes annual review: Sustainable, ecological forest management is assessed
The City of Aachen’s Municipal Forestry Office is certified according to the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®-C116663). This certification stands for sustainable, environmentally sound, and socially responsible forest management. To maintain the certification, the Forestry Office must undergo recertification every five years and a surveillance audit every four years thereafter. The next annual audit is scheduled for June 2026.
Residents of Aachen and interest groups are invited to share their views on forest management in Aachen as part of this monitoring audit. The assessments and evaluations are being collected by Patrick Hildebrandt, an independent expert from “Preferred by nature” (Nepcon)—by phone at +49 (0)176 61486634 or by email at phildebrandt@preferredbynature.org.
The guiding principle of the FSC® is the natural forest community with all its animal and plant species. These communities, which have developed over thousands of years, are highly resistant to external influences such as snow, storms, fire and climate change. Forestry companies that manage their forests in accordance with the FSC® standards make a major contribution to preserving these natural forest communities or developing the existing forest in this way.
