Next Step - Moving into the future with FH Aachen and the city
With the project "Next Step - Going into the Future with FH Aachen and the City", the City of Aachen and FH Aachen are joining forces to support young people in their professional orientation at an early stage and to recruit them as specialists for the public sector in the long term.
The aim of the planned cooperation is to position Aachen as an attractive reference region for starting a career and to make the various career paths within the city administration and FH Aachen visible. The project is aimed specifically at young people who are already in contact with FH Aachen or the City of Aachen. The aim is to get students at the FH more interested in working for the city. At the same time, the offer is aimed at those in doubt about their studies: they are shown concrete alternatives, for example by switching to an apprenticeship or a dual course of study at the City of Aachen.
A key added value of the initiative lies in the close interlinking of studies and professional practice. Students are given the opportunity to make contact with potential employers in the region, both in the city of Aachen and at FH Aachen itself, during their studies. The opportunities include working student jobs, dual study programs, joint events and practical final theses.
The project also offers new perspectives for those in doubt about their studies: Existing services such as the "Zweifel am Studium" coordination office at the FH and the "Switch" initiative, a cooperation between the City of Aachen, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and the Chamber of Skilled Crafts (HWK) Aachen, enable targeted transitions into training and careers. In addition, the aim is to attract young people from the entire region to the diverse educational and career opportunities in Aachen, in particular through dual study programs in close cooperation between FH Aachen and the city as a training partner.
The city and Aachen University of Applied Sciences also view this partnership as an invitation to partners in academia and industry to work together to secure a skilled workforce for the region. With “Next Step – Moving into the Future with Aachen University of Applied Sciences and the City of Aachen,” the City of Aachen and Aachen University of Applied Sciences are sending a strong signal in support of securing a local skilled workforce and the sustainable development of the region.
