Fair and sweet Easter greetings
Next Monday, March 30, from 12.30 p.m., two Easter bunnies - or rather Easter bunnies - will be out and about in Aachen's city center around the town hall to hand out delicious chocolate eggs to passers-by. The special feature: The Easter eggs are made from fairly traded chocolate, as the Easter bunnies are active members of the Fairtrade City of Aachen. They are using the upcoming Easter celebrations as a welcome opportunity to focus on conscious shopping for a fairer world and to promote fair eating. Fairtrade products particularly benefit people in the Global South, who as producers receive better working conditions and thus appreciation through fair trade.
14 years Fairtrade City Aachen
"Aachen has now been a Fairtrade city for 14 years: this means that there is a lot of commitment to fairer trade relations and also many great stores where you can find lovely Easter treats," explains Fabiola Blum, member of the Fairtrade working group for the city of Aachen. Mona Pursey from "Eine Welt Forum Aachen" adds: "In addition to chocolate, fair trade flowers also make a great Easter gift. The Fairtrade City Map tells you exactly where you can find them and also shows you where you can buy other products such as Fairtrade textiles or handicrafts. The fair city map focuses on owner-managed retail stores. You will also find many Fairtrade-certified products such as roses, coffee and chocolate in numerous supermarkets."
