Column on the road: emergency services rehearse an emergency on March 7
The city of Aachen's disaster control team will be rehearsing an emergency this coming Saturday, March 7. The actual training ground is in Langerwehe at the Europaschule there. The approximately 100 emergency personnel will initially gather in the Campus Melaten area. From there, the emergency convoy of around 30 vehicles will drive towards Langerwehe in the early morning with flashing blue lights (and without sirens).
Numerous volunteers from the German Red Cross, Malteser Hilfsdienst, Johanniter Unfallhilfe and the Aachen city fire department are involved in the exercise. The exercise scenario is a disaster, such as a flood event in a neighboring district, which requires a care facility for 500 people to be set up in a school. For the exercise on Saturday, the district of Düren and the disaster control department of the city of Aachen are cooperating.
As the emergency services on site are usually heavily tied up with the damage situation, additional emergency services from the surrounding area are then alerted via a NRW-wide coordinated concept, for example to set up such care places for the affected citizens. The aim of the exercise is to ensure rapid, coordinated and needs-based care and support in the event of major emergencies.
