The Statistical Yearbook 2024 is here

The Statistical Yearbooks of the City of Aachen provide an insight into the various facets of city life using well-founded figures. The Statistical Yearbook 2024 from the Statistics Office in the city's Department of Administrative Management, Policy and Dialogue is now also available online. It contains a wide-ranging data overview of the city of Aachen from the most diverse areas of life of the people in the imperial city.

The figures published here illustrate Aachen's characteristic features as a university city with a focus on technical degree courses, as a border city with Belgium and the Netherlands and as a traditional center of attraction for national and international visitors.

Did you know, for example, that the city of Aachen borders the Netherlands for 21.8 kilometers and Belgium for 23.8 kilometers? Taken together, this corresponds to just over half of the entire city border (53 percent).

As of December 31, 2024, 261,472 people lived in Aachen, including 35,261 children. 1,943 of them saw the light of day in 2024. At the same time, 50 Aachen residents have already passed the age of 100.

City life is reflected in various figures from the areas of employment, business, administration, social affairs, health, education, culture, housing, mobility and the environment. Neighborhood-specific data also illustrates the special features of the individual districts.

A wide variety of facilities contribute to a functioning infrastructure. Among other things, the Aachen municipal company disposed of around 34,000 tons of household waste, 11,000 tons of collected organic waste and 5,000 tons of bulky waste. Almost 50 million cubic meters of water were treated in the wastewater treatment plants in 2024. The fire department responded to 394 fires and 2,105 technical assistance calls, while the rescue services responded to 43,984 calls.

The Statistical Yearbook invites you to discover the diversity of Aachen's city life from new perspectives.
