The e-scooter service offered by the four companies involved in Aachen will be extended to Verlautenheide from June 2, 2026. Users will then be able to travel from Haaren and Eilendorf to Verlautenheide on e-scooters for the first time and return their vehicles to a newly established virtual parking zone at the "Verlautenheide Endstraße" bus stop.

Until now, the zone only extended as far as the bridge over the A 544 highway on the Haarener Gracht. The e-scooters gathered there. People then had to walk the rest of the way to Verlautenheide.

The new parking zone at the bus stop in Verlautenheide is located directly next to the existing pedelec rental station and complements the local mobility offer. It will initially be set up as part of a pilot project.

Requests came from the public
. The e-scooter service is now being expanded to Verlautenheide because the relevant department received requests from the public. At the Haaren Mobility Forum, held as part of the “Haaren Clever Mobil” project, Verlautenheide’s lack of connection to the existing e-scooter system was identified as a mobility gap. The Aachen-Haaren District Council and the city administration took up this suggestion. Together with the participating e-scooter providers, a solution was developed at short notice.

Councillor Dirk Zirbes from Verlautenheide welcomes the extension of the e-scooter service to Verlautenheide: "At last, users with e-scooters can also get to Verlautenheide. Until now, their journey always ended under the A 544 bridge on the Haarener Gracht."

The city of Aachen also sees the project as an important building block for the further development of sustainable mobility options. "We are delighted that the e-scooter providers have agreed to expand the offer to Verlautenheide and that we can jointly test a new offer with the virtual parking zone," says Julia Pichard, sharing expert at the City of Aachen. "Bundling the vehicles at a defined location makes it easier for providers to operate economically and at the same time prevents e-scooters from being parked uncontrollably throughout the town.

Everything in one placeIf
the service proves popular, the city will work with the participating companies to determine whether additional virtual parking zones can be established in Verlautenheide.

The city of Aachen is now hoping that the new service will be widely used. The e-scooters can usefully supplement the existing bus service and the existing bike rental services and create new mobility options for journeys between Verlautenheide, Haaren, Eilendorf and the neighboring districts.

The area around the "Verlautenheide Endstraße" stop is to be expanded further in the future. In addition to the existing pedelec rental station and the new parking area for e-scooters, a car sharing station is also to be set up in the immediate vicinity next summer. This will gradually turn the location into a mobility hub for Verlautenheide.
