Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum calls for participation
Under the motto "My Aachen - My Horse in the Museum", the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum invites citizens to participate in its upcoming exhibition.
Against the backdrop of this year's World Equestrian Games in Aachen, the SLM is dedicating the exhibition "The Happiness of this Earth. Dürer, Rubens, Goya: Horses in Art", the SLM is dedicating the first comprehensive exhibition to the significance of horses in the history of art and culture.
The exhibition looks at the central role horses have played in society from antiquity to the present day: whether as status symbols of the ruling classes and nobility, as indispensable workers in agriculture and transportation or as part of leisure, sport, childhood and fairy tales.
The museum is calling on citizens to make an artistic object relating to the theme of horses available for the duration of the exhibition. As a participatory offer, there will be a joint presentation of selected objects parallel to the exhibition.
We are looking for:
Drawings, graphics, paintings, photographs, sculptures and objects made of glass or ceramics with a clear reference to horses.
These should not be self-produced works of art.
For the application, the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum requires a clearly recognizable photo of the object and details of its dimensions. Optionally, further information on the origin or history of the object can be added.
Please do not send any originals!
The closing date for entries is Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Please send applications to this e-mail address: eventslm@mail.aachen.de
Following the viewing, the museum team will make a selection of exhibits.
