30 years of the Underground Party: the party without alcohol celebrates its anniversary on Fat Thursday
Oche Alaaf! On Fat Thursday, February 12, the party is back in full swing. The Underground Party has been proving for thirty years that it's also great without alcohol: Since 1996, the event has offered all young people over 12 and under 18 a safe place to party. On Thursday, February 12, between 2 and 6.30 pm at the Apollo-Kino, Pontstraße 141-149, there will be two reasons for the party: carnival and the 30th anniversary.
The development of the underground party
The City of Aachen's Youth and Schools Department has always offered the event as part of its educational child and youth protection program. The idea: to give young people an opportunity to celebrate in a safe environment, among themselves, without alcohol and at moderate prices.
The Underground Party owes its name to its former venue, the underpass at the bus station. It moved to the Königkeller in 2009 and was relocated to the Jakobshof in 2011. Since 2016, it has been held at the Apollo, with the exception of the coronavirus years 2021 and 2022. The original name was retained as a reference to the beginning in the "underground".
To this day, the young visitors gratefully accept the offer: In recent years, at least 500 party-goers have attended the underground party every year. Last year, the carnival party even attracted 680 people - so the Apollo was full.
Security is taken care of
The Apollo fulfills all requirements - for example with regard to fire protection, staff and escape routes. In addition, a professional security company guarantees order at the entrance and at the party. The Malteser and several specialists from youth support and youth social work are also on site. Parents can therefore rest assured: Everything possible will be done to ensure the safety of the children.
Visitors can look forward to an affordable party among their peers. As every year, admission and checkroom are free. Drinks cost 1 euro, non-alcoholic cocktails 2.50 euros.
