"Oecher People" - Artificial intelligence brings Aachen's diversity to life
As part of its current campaign on the topic of artificial intelligence, the city of Aachen is presenting the "Oecher People" project. The aim is to make visible who is actually behind AI development in Aachen: Which people are driving research forward? Who is using AI in companies, administration and science?
The "Oecher People" app, developed by the city's business development department, uses augmented reality to give these players a face. As a digital portrait series, it brings personalities from science, business, administration and other institutions to life. In this edition, the focus is deliberately on the topic of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence has long been part of our everyday lives: it supports navigation, helps with medical diagnoses, optimizes industrial processes and changes the way we work, learn and communicate. This often goes unnoticed - and yet hardly any other technology has changed our lives as fundamentally as AI in recent years.
What many people don't realize is that Aachen is one of the central hotspots for AI research, development and application in Germany and Europe. With RWTH Aachen University, Aachen University of Applied Sciences, numerous research institutions, start-ups and established companies, AI "made in Aachen" is being created here - based on European values, with a clear focus on data protection, transparency and digital sovereignty.
The exhibition features CEOs of innovative companies, professors from RWTH Aachen University and Aachen University of Applied Sciences as well as voices from the city administration. They provide insights into their work and explain how diverse AI is already being used in Aachen today - in a practical, responsible and future-oriented way.
"Oecher People" is designed as a traveling exhibition and can be seen until the end of January at the Aachen City Library and the FH Start-up Center during opening hours. Visitors can scan a QR code on site, download the app and access the videos of the portrayed personalities via augmented reality.
With "Oecher People", the city of Aachen is promoting dialog between society and technology and underlining its role as a forward-looking city.
