VHS lecture: "Transport plans for Aachen: today, yesterday, the day before yesterday"
The Adult Education Center (VHS) invites you to an exciting journey through time as part of its 1/2026 programme. In a lecture entitled "Traffic plans for Aachen: today, yesterday, the day before yesterday", Dr. Armin Langweg will report on traffic development planning over the past decades. Langweg is the coordinator of current traffic development planning in the city of Aachen.
In his presentation, he will look back at earlier transportation plans for the city of Aachen. This look into the past also includes the debate about a "pedestrian-friendly city center" in the 1990s and the decades-long efforts to reintroduce a light rail system in Aachen. But it is also about questions such as: Why is Aachen a pedestrian city? How has the importance of bus and rail transport changed in the recent past? What role does the 2019 cycling referendum play?
The event is free of charge for participants and begins on Tuesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. in the VHS building at Bushof, Peterstraße 21 to 25. Registration is possible via the VHS website: www.vhs-aachen.de
