Knowledge grows - launch of the Seed Library 2026 at Aachen City Library

Spring marks the start of the new gardening season - and the seed library is starting up again at Aachen City Library. Under the motto "Knowledge grows", the library invites you to the official kick-off event on Thursday, March 5, at 4:30 p.m. in the Learning Workshop (Couvenstraße 15, 1st floor).

This year's focus is on sustainable gardening - practical and suitable for everyday use, whether in your own garden, in a raised bed or on the balcony. Dr. David Spencer has once again been invited as a guest speaker. The biologist, author and science communicator completed his doctorate at RWTH Aachen University on disease resistance in cultivated plants and is known to a wide audience through lectures, science slams and his YouTube channel "Krautnah". In his lecture, he combines scientific findings with practical tips for everyday gardening.

The seed library is a sustainable hands-on project: you can borrow seeds free of charge, grow them, harvest them and, ideally, return new seeds to the cycle. This creates a lively exchange that contributes to the preservation of old and seed-resistant varieties.

The seed distribution starts after the event. Up to three seed bags can be taken per person. In addition to the Central Library, this year it is also possible to borrow seeds from the branch in the depot and from the book bus.
