25 young volunteers awarded volunteer scholarships

In the historic Coronation Hall of Aachen City Hall, 25 young volunteers from Aachen and the city region were awarded the Volunteer Scholarship. With this joint sponsorship program, the StädteRegion Aachen and the City of Aachen acknowledge the special social commitment of young people and support them financially in their important work for the common good.

Voluntary commitment in particular
The scholarship holders each receive a grant of 1,200 euros. A total of 25 scholarships are awarded per calendar year. The funding is intended to benefit young people between the ages of 16 and 26 who are in school or vocational training, such as school, university or a voluntary social year, and who hold a key position in their club, association or comparable institution or are particularly committed to volunteering.

The young volunteers were presented with their awards by Dr. Tim Grüttemeier, member of the Aachen City Council, and Dr. Michael Ziemons, Lord Mayor of Aachen. In their speeches, both emphasized the outstanding importance of volunteering for social cohesion in the city and region.

An indispensable part of social cohesion
The representatives of the city and the StädteRegion emphasized that young people who take on responsibility and show great personal commitment to others are an indispensable part of social cohesion. The volunteer scholarship should help to strengthen and reliably support this commitment and enable them to continue their involvement despite school or work commitments.

When selecting the scholarship holders, the degree of responsibility assumed, the amount of time spent on the commitment, the variety of activities and the respective social area played a decisive role.

The festive event in the Coronation Hall provided a worthy setting to thank the young people for their special commitment and to make their dedication visible to the public. With the volunteer scholarship, the city and the StädteRegion will continue to send a strong signal for the promotion and appreciation of young volunteers in the future.
