A fourth provider will be renting out its e-scooters in Aachen from March 2026. This is the Scandinavian micro-mobility provider Ryde. It expands the existing offering of the three e-scooter operators already active in Aachen: Dott, Ridemovie and VOI. The total number of rental e-scooters amounting to 2,000 rental vehicles will remain the same. This means that the fleet size of the four provider companies remains within the limits previously set by the city.

In many European cities, lightweight electric vehicles are now an integral part of the mobility mix and complement walking, cycling and local transport. Even though many people use their own bikes or scooters, sharing services offer a flexible, space-saving and climate-friendly way to cover short distances.

In Aachen, for example, micromobility has become very well established with e-scooters. The city controls the situation by setting up parking areas and prohibited zones. With clear rules and balanced planning, the city has the highest number of journeys per inhabitant in Germany. In January 2026, 106,651 trips with e-scooters were registered in Aachen alone. This shows how well municipalities and providers can work together to improve mobility while ensuring safety and quality of life in public spaces.
