New paths for Haaren: Opening of the Wurm-Haarbach floodplain in Haaren
The time has come: on Friday, February 20, the construction fences will disappear and a new recreational area will be opened up at the entrance to Aachen-Haaren. A new pathway with two additional bridges over the Wurm will link and connect the urban environment of Alt-Haarener-Straße with the new, 5,300 square meter public green space, often referred to as "Haarener Eck", the park at the old cemetery and Benno-Levy-Weg. The two streams Wurm and Haarbach, which join here, can now be experienced for the first time. Along the new riverside path and the entrance areas, numerous seating and recreational areas invite visitors to linger.
The construction work has been completed after a one-year construction phase. The bridges were installed last summer. Only then could the paths be completed. Finally, new railings were installed as fall protection on the bridges and on the banks of the Wurm.
The measure is part of the ISEK (urban development concept) for Haaren and is funded with 80 percent.
There will be an official opening ceremony in the spring and the new green will be duly celebrated. The small area at the entrance to Tuchmacherweg will also be completed by then.
