“Shaping Our Future Through Human Rights” – FIAN Traveling Exhibition at the Aachen City Library
The traveling exhibition “Shaping Our Future with Human Rights” by the human rights organization FIAN (FoodFirst Information and Action Network) is coming to Aachen. It will be on display at the Aachen City Library from September 1 through 14. Through selected examples from FIAN’s case studies, the exhibition highlights how the consequences of resource extraction and the climate crisis are threatening people’s livelihoods worldwide.
The exhibition illustrates how human rights contribute in concrete ways to creating a just and livable future—for current and future generations. At the same time, it shows why strengthening human rights is also of central importance in Germany. It invites visitors to discover ways they can take action and encourages young people in particular to actively work toward a more just future.
The FIAN Aachen group was one of the founding members of FIAN Germany 40 years ago. Now it has set itself the goal of becoming more active again and sparking public interest through this exhibition. In addition, members of the group will be on hand to guide visitors through the exhibition in person in the afternoons from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
To accompany the exhibition, there will be lectures on human rights on three afternoons:
Tuesday, September 1, 4:00 p.m. Food
Insecurity – How Poverty Hinders the Right to Food – Dr. Lutz Depenbusch (Misereor)
Thursday, September 3, 4:00 p.m. Shaping Our Future Through
Human Rights – Gertrud Falk (FIAN - Germany)
Friday, September 11, 4:00 p.m. Women
Feed the World – Petra Sauerland (FIAN – Aachen)
