Solidarity Campaign for the World Equestrian Games: Old Cell Phones for a Good Cause
The Catholic charity missio Aachen, together with the City of Aachen and the ALRV, is calling on people to donate old cell phones to a good cause. Boxes where old smartphones can be dropped off are located on the grounds of the World Equestrian Games as well as at numerous collection points throughout the city of Aachen.
Aachen Mayor Michael Ziemons and missio President Rev. Dirk Bingener are jointly asking for your support. “In the year of the 2026 FEI World Championships in Aachen, we want to bring the circular economy to life and work together to combat this waste of resources. We ask you: Please dig out your old and unused cell phones from your drawers,” reads their joint appeal.
The donated used devices are properly recycled or refurbished. The proceeds from recycling are used to support aid projects run by missio Aachen. Sister Mercy Benson, a missio project partner, highlights just how important this recycling is—not only for Germany but also worldwide. “The more that is recycled in Germany, the fewer illegal exports of electronic waste there are that pollute my home country of Ghana.”
