Parkflimmern 2026: Open-Air Movie Theater in Kennedy Park
The Nadelfabrik Aachen and Wegweiser in the Aachen region are once again teaming up this year to present the popular “Parkflimmern” event series. From September 4 to 6, visitors can look forward to a varied open-air cinema experience over three evenings on the outdoor stage in Kennedypark. The films start at 8:15 p.m. each night. Admission is free. A perfect way to wrap up the summer for all movie fans.
The Parkflimmern festival begins on Friday, September 4, with the drama “A Cake for the President.” Longtime dictator Saddam Hussein is turning 64, and for his birthday, teachers loyal to the regime ensure that schools must bake a cake for public celebrations. The choice falls on 9-year-old Lamia, who lives in poverty with her grandmother. The fact that the Second Iraq War, currently raging, has made food scarce and expensive complicates the plan to bake a cake for the president. With only two days left, Lamia and her grandmother set out on an adventurous quest.
On Saturday, September 5, the comedy “DJ Ahmet” will be shown. As 15-year-old shepherd Ahmet chugs through the hilly landscape of North Macedonia in his tractor, bass-heavy songs boom from his homemade sound system. The electronic beats promise an escape from the conservative village community. Unfortunately, the nearest disco is impossibly far away, the local download speed is abysmal, and his strict father is doing everything he can to drive his love of music out of him. Only his mute brother Naim shares his enthusiasm—until the beautiful Aya, home on vacation from faraway Germany, moves in with the neighbors. At secret raves in the fields, the two inevitably grow closer to the beat of the music—but unfortunately, she’s already promised to another man. Can Ahmet prevent the marriage and break free from tradition?
On Sunday, September 6, the film adaptation of the novel “Der Buchspazierer” will air. Carl Kollhof, a widowed retiree, loves books. He works at a small bookstore and delivers customers’ book orders—carefully wrapped—right to their doorsteps. One day, nine-year-old Sascha tags along behind him. At first, he accepts this only reluctantly, but gradually a friendship develops between the 70-year-old loner and the cheeky girl. When the bookstore is taken over by the large chain “Orange Books,” it spells the end for the two “book walkers”—or does it?
In the event of severe weather, the events will be canceled.
