"El Sás and his friends": Musical storytelling concert with over 100 children
Under the title “El Sás and His Friends,” more than 100 children from GGS Düppelstraße, GGS Schönforst, and GGS Malmedyer Straße will present an interactive concert on Sunday, May 10, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of Viktoriaschule Aachen.
In the story, the three children—El Sás (guitar), Malmy (flute), and Schwalbe (string instruments)—meet, introduce their instruments to one another, and take the audience on a musical journey: from Renaissance dance and folk songs to tango, boogie, and rap.
The title “El Sás” refers both to Elsassstraße in Aachen’s Ostviertel neighborhood and to the Turkish lute instrument, the saz. The musical theater piece was further developed in collaboration with the guitar, recorder, and string classes at the Aachen Music School, which have been in existence for around 20 years.
Following the first collaboration with the international guitar festival speGTRa in 2016, the project was awarded the Sparda Music Network Prize in Düsseldorf. Since then, the narrative concert has been a regular feature of the festival. The event will take place again this year in cooperation with speGTRa.
The musical direction is under the guidance of Vicente Bögeholz, Hanna Gründer, and Illa Tönnies.
Admission is free; donations are welcome.
