Haarbachtal: Path between Eilendorf and Haaren to be opened on April 17
The connection between Haaren and Eilendorf via Haarbachtalstraße and Nirmer Weg will be open to pedestrians and cyclists again from Friday, April 17. According to Autobahn GmbH, the closure will end at 3 pm. The path was closed in January 2024 because the Haarbachtal bridge was first blown up, demolished and later rebuilt. The path was constantly crossed by construction vehicles during the construction work.
In recent months, the course of the Haarbach stream has been redesigned. The renaturation measures around the Haarbach will continue in the coming months and are expected to last until the end of 2026. From September 2026, the Haarbach valley will be further greened by planting trees and shrubs.
Aachen's Councillor for Construction, Planning and Mobility Frauke Burgdorff and the Head of the Mobility Department Uwe Müller are delighted that this important footpath and cycle path link between Eilendorf and Haaren will be permanently reopened. They said: "This means that a very important part of the joint work with Autobahn GmbH has come to a successful conclusion. The restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists since the closure in January 2024 were immense - it's great that safe and short connections are now possible again in the summertime."
