Successful conclusion of the International Weeks against Racism in Aachen
The International Weeks against Racism in Aachen came to an end with a fully booked reading at the Nadelfabrik. To conclude the diverse series of events, author Stève Hiobi read from his book All about Africa and inspired the audience with personal insights and differentiated perspectives on the African continent.
In All about Africa, Jobi conveys a multifaceted picture of Africa that focuses on cultural diversity, social developments and individual realities of life. During the reading, he combined personal experiences with informative background information and encouraged the audience to change their perspective.
The event was met with great interest and was a worthy conclusion to this year's action weeks, which have met with a broad response in Aachen's urban society. The reading was organized by the Wegweiser prevention programme in the Aachen region and the Aachen Municipal Integration Centre.
The International Weeks against Racism in Aachen, organized by a broad municipal alliance and various educational institutions, once again sent out a strong signal against racism, for diversity and social cohesion. The program included numerous events such as workshops, theater, lectures and a reading. These included the fully booked opening event at the Stadttheater with Spiegel editor Ann-Katrin Müller on the threat to democracy as well as workshops on racism in sport and discrimination through AI systems.
The nationwide action weeks, which are held annually around the International Day against Racism on March 21, were held this year under the motto "100% human dignity - together against racism and right-wing extremism". The aim is to raise awareness of the causes and effects of racism, promote social dialogue and sensitize people to the need to live together in respect and solidarity.
