City in transition: exhibition, book presentation and panel discussion

The coronavirus pandemic has clearly shown how severely our cities are affected by global crises. With the project call "Post-Corona City: Ideas and Concepts for Resilient Urban Development", the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) has funded 17 pilot projects in recent years as part of the National Urban Development Policy to test innovative and exemplary solutions for crisis-resistant city and neighborhood structures. The city of Aachen was one of these pilot projects.

In this context, the exhibition "Urban Resilience in Practice - Impulses for the City in Transition" will take place from Tuesday, September 16 to Tuesday, September 23 in the Annahalle, Annastrasse 14-16 (opening hours: Monday to Friday from 2 to 7 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm). The city and the Chair of Planning Theory and Urban Development at RWTH Aachen University are also hosting a book presentation and discussion entitled "Begabte Innenstadt. ACademie für kollaborative Stadtentwicklung" - also in the Annahalle on Tuesday, September 23, from 6.30 pm.

Speaking on the podium: Prof. Anne-Julchen Bernhardt and Dr. Anna Weber (Chair of Building Theory and Design, RWTH Aachen University), Martin Görg (Görg Wolle, host and contributor to the ACademie), Peter Köddermann (Managing Director Program of Baukultur Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V.), Prof. Dr. Carmella Pfaffenbach (Department of Cultural Geography, RWTH Aachen University), Kyra Pfeil (City Manager of the City of Aachen, City of the Future and Citizens' Dialogue Department), Björn Schötten (Geymüller Verlag für Architektur), Stefanie Weitenberg (Head of the Urban Renewal and Urban Design Department, City of Aachen). Prof. Dr. Agnes Förster, Head of the Chair of Planning Theory and Urban Development at RWTH Aachen University, will moderate the discussion.

The book "Begabte Innenstadt" presents the results of the "ACademie für kollaborative Stadtentwicklung", which worked on the structural change of Aachen's city center in an interdisciplinary process from 2021 to 2023. The results of the project are closely linked to the urban future process "City Center Tomorrow". The aim of this is to get as many citizens as possible actively involved in shaping their city of the future.
