Kurhaus: Selection process for event location in the basement begins

  • The City of Aachen is looking for a tenant for a room in the basement of the Kurhaus.
  • The aim is to create a new attractive center of attraction for nightlife, culture/youth culture and a modern urban society.
  • Interested parties can submit a corresponding concept by October 17.

While work on the revitalization of the Kurhaus is in full swing and on schedule, the administration and Eurogress are looking for a tenant to lease part of the basement of the Kurhaus with ideas for a diverse, high-quality and forward-looking offer in the areas of nightlife, culture/youth culture and modern urban coexistence, which should also have an impulse effect for the city centre. The aim is to develop the basement of the Kurhaus into a lively meeting place for different target groups.

The room is located under the future outdoor terrace and can be operated independently. Until 2002, it housed the slot machine casino of Spielbank Aachen. Access for visitors is via a separate barrier-free entrance. The event room (incl. bar and stage area) will be around 190 square meters in size. Back office and storage rooms are also planned. The maximum capacity is 400 people.

The application deadline is October 17, 2025. Interested applicants are requested to request information on the selection procedure exclusively in writing by e-mail from Eurogress. The contact person is Kristina Wulf, Operations Manager Eurogress Aachen: kwulf@eurogress-aachen.de.

A building with more than 100 years of history
The Kurhaus in Aachen has been picturesquely situated in the city's Kurpark for over 100 years and dominates the skyline near the Hotel Quellenhof and the Eurogress. Opened in 1916, the Kurhaus housed two concert halls, reading rooms, smoking rooms, function rooms and games rooms as well as two so-called women's rooms. The gastronomic facilities included a dining room, a wine salon and several coffee rooms.

The building was badly damaged during the Second World War. After its reconstruction, it reopened on February 5, 1953 with a carnival session. Since then, the building has been a venue for concerts and carnival events, including the "Orden wider den tierischen Ernst" event, until the newly founded Casino Aachen moved in in 1976. The building has been empty since the casino moved out in 2015. The opening is expected to take place in mid-2026.
