Experience climate adaptation on a walk
How do urban planning and design affect the climate? And are the consequences visible in Aachen? Anyone interested can find out for themselves on climate walks as part of the "Week of Climate Adaptation" on Wednesday, September 17 and Friday, September 19. Together with the NRW consumer advice center, the City of Aachen has planned a walk through Aachen. This will take around one hour and 15 minutes and will be led by Dr. Daniel Kelterbaum, Department of Climate and Environment of the City of Aachen, and Dr. Timo Bißwanger, Consumer Advice Center NRW. The meeting point is directly in front of the NRW consumer advice center on Aachen-Münchener-Platz.
During the climate walks in Aachen, thermal imaging and thermal cameras are used to show the sometimes enormous temperature differences between different surfaces and materials. Urban planning and design with regard to heat storage and heavy rainfall prevention are also examined. Another part of the climate walks is the consideration of the different effects of various gardens, such as gravel gardens, green front gardens or the effect of the mini-forest at Aachen-Münchener.
The climate walks are part of the "Climate Adaptation Week" from September 15 to 19. This is being organized for the fourth time by the Centre for Climate Adaptation on the initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The aim is not only to inform people and motivate them to get involved and shape the future, but also to show them how Germany is adapting to climate change.
No registration is required to take part in a climate walk.
