Car sharing is to be further expanded in the city of Aachen. The city is asking all interested citizens to take part in a participation process by September 30, 2025 and suggest where further vehicle locations should be created in Aachen.

Car sharing in Aachen has been operated by one provider since 1990. This provider currently operates 73 car sharing stations in the city.

In recent years, it has been shown that station-based car sharing is an effective instrument for reducing the number of cars and thus making a significant contribution to relieving traffic congestion. For this reason, this type of car sharing will continue to be promoted as a priority in Aachen.

As part of the Mobility Strategy 2030, the proportion of Aachen residents who use car sharing is to be further increased. To this end, the Mobility Committee adopted corresponding sharing guidelines for the city of Aachen in January 2025. Among other things, they stipulate that in future there should be one car sharing vehicle for every 500 adult residents. In order to achieve this, a targeted expansion of car sharing services is planned in the coming years.
