Concert evening at the depot: symphonic wind orchestras from Aachen and Hergenrath
At the invitation of the young symphonic wind orchestra "WindEnergie" from the Aachen Music School, the Königliche Harmonie Hergenrath will be making a guest appearance in the imperial city.
At the concert on Saturday, November 29, at 7 p.m. in the Depot Talstraße, the symphonic wind orchestra will present excerpts from its current program "Stadt, Land, Fluss" (City, Country, River) under the direction of conductor Rainer Hilger. The program opens with José Alberto Pina's "Steel Overture", whose energy is reminiscent of the sparkle of a modern skyline. James Barnes' "Escenas de los Aztecas" evokes impressions from the world of the Aztecs, followed by the film music "Symphonic Suite from Rio" by John Powell from the 3D animated film "Rio". The "Concerto for Trumpet" by Harry James combines urban elegance and virtuoso playing. The soloist is Patrick Sporken, long-time trumpeter of the Harmonie Hergenrath and conductor of the WindEnergie ensemble. The concert program concludes with "Dublin Pictures" by Marc Jeanbourquin, depicting musical scenes from the Irish capital - cheerful and melancholy at the same time.
The Royal Harmony Hergenrath
The Königliche Harmonie Hergenrath is East Belgium's flagship orchestra: founded in 1897 as a village association, the 60-strong ensemble is now known far beyond the borders of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine - for music, quality and passion. Since 1989, the Hergenrather Harmonie has been sponsored by the German-speaking Community of Belgium as an "association with special artistic distinction". In the last classification in the fall of 2024, the orchestra under the direction of Rainer Hilger achieved 96% in the highest level.
The village of Hergenrath is located in the German-speaking part of Belgium, belongs to the municipality of Kelmis, shares a border with the city of Aachen and is the first Belgian stop on the Aachen-Liège railroad line. At the beginning of 2002, the orchestra gave a concert in the Coronation Hall of Aachen Town Hall at the academic meeting for the introduction of the euro in the border triangle. And at the Charlemagne Prize award ceremony for former German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2008, the Königliche Harmonie Hergenrath played as part of the official supporting program at the Katschhof.
Admission is free. Donations are welcome.
