Inauguration of the Lord Mayor, his three deputies and the new council members
At the constituent meeting of Aachen City Council on November 5, the new Lord Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons, his deputies Dr. Ralf Otten, Ulla Griepentrog and Sebastian Becker as well as the 30 new council members took their oath of office.
The three honorary deputy mayors were elected unanimously by the parliamentary groups on the council. The following parliamentary groups emerged from the local elections on September 14: CDU, Greens, SPD, DIE LINKE and AfD. The new council is currently made up of 66 seats, having been reduced to 58 seats in the 2020 local elections.
Mayor Ziemons was elected with 56.03 percent of the vote after a run-off election on September 28.
