Free vouchers for "Fit in first aid for infants"

As part of the baby welcome packs, the visiting service for parents of newborns in the city of Aachen is once again distributing vouchers for the "Fit in First Aid for Babies" course. Under the motto "The best prevention is to prevent accidents from happening in the first place", the course focuses not only on emergency measures but also on prevention and identifying sources of danger in everyday life. The courses are held in cooperation with the German Red Cross, the Helene-Weber-Haus and the Malteser Hilfsdienst e. V.

The visiting service

Two social workers from the City of Aachen's visiting service for parents of newborns visit the parents, welcome the babies and present the families with the baby welcome pack. This package contains gifts, vouchers and important information for young families. The visiting service is aimed at all families with newborn babies in Aachen. In addition to the welcome pack, the team offers personal visits where parents can ask questions about childcare, financial support or ways to relieve the burden. On request, the staff can arrange suitable offers of help and accompany the families to the relevant contact points.

The visiting service is a voluntary offer within the early help services of the Youth and School Department of the City of Aachen. The aim is to support families in this special phase of life and provide guidance. After the birth of their child, many parents ask themselves questions such as: "Where can I meet other parents?" or "When should I register my child for nursery?"

Shortly after the birth of a child, parents receive a letter of congratulations from the Lord Mayor with information about the visiting service. For the first child in the family, a visit is suggested directly, while parents who already have children can contact the service themselves if they are interested. Alternatively, the welcome pack is available for collection from the Visiting Service office in Mozartstraße by appointment - with or without a consultation.

Prepared for an emergency

A particular highlight for many parents last year were the vouchers for first aid courses, which were distributed from August 2024. The response was overwhelming and the first courses were quickly fully booked, which is why the campaign is being run again this year. Parents particularly appreciated the fact that they were able to attend the course together as parents and were allowed to bring their baby with them. "We really enjoyed the course because it was super informative and very entertaining and the atmosphere in the course with all the babies was nice and relaxed. We now both feel much more confident in the event of an emergency," reported one expectant mother who attended the course with her partner in March 2025.

Expectant parents can contact the visiting service for parents of newborns before the birth if they have any questions or are interested in vouchers for the free course "Fit in First Aid for Babies".
