Bücke at the stop in Eilendorf becomes single-lane
The bridge on Wolfsbendenstraße in Eilendorf between Kalkbergstraße and Bückstraße/Kehrbrückstraße is in a critical condition. The traffic load on the bridge must be reduced in order to ensure safety until it is due for repair. For this reason, the road maintenance and bridge construction department of Aachener Stadtbetrieb had to arrange for a partial closure of the bridge. This week, week 13, the bridge will therefore be partially closed. Vehicle traffic will then only be guided across the structure in one lane and in the middle; meeting traffic will then be excluded.
The damage was discovered during the last main inspection of the bridge. The three-span reinforced concrete slab bridge was built in 1965. The pendulum supports in the middle show severe concrete spalling, which indicates the limited load-bearing capacity of the structure and further reinforces it. This type of damage can also be found on the roadway panels and the caps.
As the pendulum supports in particular are heavily loaded, the traffic load must be significantly reduced. This is to ensure the stability of the structure until the planned replacement construction in 2028/2029.
Pedestrians and cyclists are not affected by the traffic restrictions.
