Women's Education Week 2025: Gender & Medicine

The Equal Opportunities Office of the City of Aachen is organizing two lectures from the Gender & Medicine series as part of the 13th Women's Education Week 2025.

Next Wednesday, April 2, the lecture "Sexual Health" will take place in cooperation with and at Aidshilfe Aachen e. V. from 5.30 to 6 pm. What STIs (sexually transmitted infections) are there and how can you effectively protect yourself against them? How often should you get tested, who is actually allowed to do this and how does it work? Despite the relevance of this topic, it is still a shameful subject in many areas, which significantly increases the inhibition threshold to seek help in case of uncertainty or suspicion. The lecture aims to encourage people to seek advice

Two days later, on April 4, the Equal Opportunities Office and the Marienhospital will be hosting an event entitled "Endometriosis: the underestimated disease" from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Marienhospital. Endometriosis is not a question of age. Experts estimate that between 8 and 25 percent of all women between puberty and the menopause suffer from endometriosis. That's up to 40,000 new cases per year in Germany. Despite its high prevalence and serious effects, the disease is not recognized enough by society. Most sufferers have never heard of endometriosis before their diagnosis. Dr. Huda Kweider, Marienhospital Aachen, provides important information on assessing symptoms and gives case studies. Jochen Dieckert has been specializing in the surgical treatment of endometriosis of all degrees of severity for many years and provides important information on the assessment of symptoms.

Participation in the lectures is free of charge, please register at www.aachen.de/gendermedizin. If you have any questions, please contact the Equal Opportunities Office at gsb@mail.aachen.de.
