"Earth Hour" 2025: Lights off. Voice on. For a living planet.
On Saturday, March 22, from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m. (local time), the lights will go out for one hour around the world. In Aachen, too, private individuals and public institutions are called upon to switch off the lights at home or in the office during the "Earth Hour" organized by the environmental association WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Earth Hour is a reminder that we all share responsibility for our planet and must call on politicians to take decisive action.
For the WWF, Earth Hour is the largest global climate and environmental protection campaign. "Earth Hour 2025 is a signal that is more important than ever in view of the devastating and extreme weather events, ever new heat records and dwindling natural resources," emphasizes Heiko Thomas, Alderman for Climate and Environment of the City of Aachen. Every year since 2007, millions of people, companies and cities around the world have switched off the lights in their private homes, public buildings, landmarks or locations for "Earth Hour" to set an example in the world's largest campaign for more climate and environmental protection. This year, the lights on public buildings in Aachen will be switched off again for "Earth Hour" between 8.30 and 9.30 p.m., for example at the town hall or the cathedral.
Anyone who would like to take part can register at www.wwf.de/earth-hour and find out more about the event. Whether at home or on the move, whether analog or digital - the WWF invites you to take part in Earth Hour 2025. Using the hashtags #LichtAus and #EarthHour, anyone who wants to can report on their own activities on social networks.
