Film screening: "The Oppenhoff murder case"
The Volkshochschule Aachen (vhs), together with the Förderverein Wege gegen das Vergessen e. V., invites you to the documentary film "Der Mordfall Oppenhoff" from 1985. Anyone interested can watch the film on Tuesday, March 25, at 6.30 pm in the Apollo Kino, Pontstraße 141-149. The event is part of the series "Aachen 1944 and the road to democracy".
On March 25, 1945, Aachen's Lord Mayor Franz Oppenhoff was murdered by a National Socialist "werewolf" commando in front of his house on Eupener Straße. In the 1950s, some of those involved were brought to trial, which ended with acquittals or petty sentences handed down soon afterwards.
Almost forty years after the events, Hamburg historian Hannes Heer managed to track down and interview almost all those involved in the crime after a long search for clues. The result is a documentary produced for WDR in 1985, which met with a great response in Aachen. The film will be followed by a brief historical context.
Registration is required at www.vhs-aachen.de/kurssuche/kurs/Der+murder+Oppenhoff+-+documentary+1985/251-04214. The film screening is free of charge.
