Virtual trip to Poland with Jan Dobija
As part of the "My Europe" series, Jan Dobija will present the country of Poland in German on Wednesday, March 19, at 7 pm. Jan was born in Essen as the son of Polish migrants. Growing up between the cultures and changes in Europe since the eastward expansion in 2004 has always raised questions of identity. But identity is not only an important topic for him.
Poland's history is characterized by divisions, displacements and 123 years of non-existence, which is why Poles have found a new home abroad all over the world. In Germany too, Poles are the second largest ethnic minority after Turks, but despite their long history, Poles are considered "invisible" here. The question of Polish and European identity continues to shape Polish society, politics and its conflicts to this day. Poland, quo vadis?
Participants in the virtual journey will gain an insight into the country of Poland and can actively participate in the free online event. Participants' questions will be taken up by moderator Kathi Roß. Anyone who wants to can switch on the video and sound and ask Jan questions directly. You can register online at www.mein-europa.eu . The access data will be sent by e-mail.
The "My Europe" series is organized by the Institut Français Aachen, the Charlemagne Prize Foundation, the Charlemagne Prize Academy and the Europe Direct Centres in Aachen, Gütersloh, Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen and Bocholt.
