Current meeting of the Citizens' Forum discusses four topics
The next meeting of the Citizens' Forum will take place on Tuesday, March 25, at 6 p.m. in the Kurpark-Terrassen in Aachen-Burtscheid, Dammstraße 40. The meeting has therefore been postponed by one week. The Citizens' Forum will discuss four topics.
Among other things, the current Citizens' Forum will discuss the selection of topics for the Citizens' Council 2025, which will be made permanent following a successful pilot phase. This year, Aachen residents submitted 38 topics. 24 proposals reached the minimum number of 125 votes; together with four topics from the administration, they went through to the next selection round. An advisory committee made up of former participants of the Citizens' Assembly 2023 and 2024 selected five proposals from these topics. The citizens' forum will decide on the final topic at the meeting.
Residents of Grachtstrasse in Aachen-Brand also asked politicians and the administration to review the possibility of permanently closing Grachtstrasse between Indeweg and Krauthausen in Aachen-Brand. According to the applicants, a temporary closure due to construction work in 2024 would lead to a reduction in illegal waste disposal and animals being run over in the affected nature reserve.
The "Barrier-free building" commission asks the citizens' forum to discuss improving parking facilities for people with walking difficulties, people with disabilities and older people - especially in Aachen's city center - in a citizens' petition. A city-wide concept should be developed to enable this group of people to participate more independently in social life.
The "Radentscheid" coordination team also addresses the parking situation in Aachen's city center in its citizens' petition. The applicants call for the comprehensive establishment of parking and stopping zones for care and delivery services in Aachen. The aim is to enable care services to plan their routes more efficiently and make their work easier as part of the mobility transition.
All Aachen residents are cordially invited to attend the Citizens' Forum meeting and join in the discussion. Everyone is welcome and every opinion is important. Citizens can find more information about the meeting and the items on the agenda in the Council information system at aachen.de.
